Quality Inspector III

Position Summary:

Work from blueprints and diagrams, with moderate supervision, to perform a series of semi-repetitive, detailed steps to check the accuracy of production processes at a series of production stages.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Perform all the duties of the Quality Inspector I and II as well as the following:
  • Operation/use of the Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM).
  • Programming of the CMM.
  • Perform first piece inspections as required, and provide the data in a form that is usable for the customer.
  • Perform corrective action as a result of Quality results and internal audits.
  • Perform equipment calibration tasks as assigned.
  • Instruct others in the processes and procedures, if necessary.
  • Clean and maintain a safe work area.

Specific Qualifications:

  • Must maintain positive, productive relationships with other workers in the department, supervisors, production workers, shipping and office/sales staff.
  • Work as part of the team of inspectors, rotating and shifting to other areas as needed to cover the departmental workload.
  • Communicate quality related issues to management and supervisors in other departments, as well as to the team individuals, in order to ensure they are aware of issues.
  • Must be able to coach and instruct other inspectors and temporary workers, as needed.

Technical Qualifications:

  • Utilize a variety of gauges and measuring devices, both complex and simple.
  • Ability to program and operate a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) for mechanical inspection.
  • Use a computer and a variety of computer software applications such as ROI and MS Office to access and retrieve data and prints, to read and write electronic mail and to log production.

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Traveling by car and/or train may be required.
  • Must be able to lift and carry parts and tools of up to 50 (fifty) pounds.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports, prepare documentation, develop procedures and write correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.

Mathematical Skills :

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as basic probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane geometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
