Program Manager

Position Summary

Direct and coordinate activities of customer programs in a sales organization concerned with providing customer services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Must know all company services, the entire product line, manufacturing and distribution processes. Must establish trusting and meaningful relationships with customers, vendors, production, customer service, engineering and sales personnel. Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and orally. Must have strong working knowledge of engineering programs, e.g. Corel, ProE, Solidworks, AudoCAD, Adobe and be able to read and interpret blueprints. Must be able to provide instruction to achieve results.

Sales

  • Direct sales forecasting activities and set performance goals accordingly.
  • Quote pricing to customers and/or internal Sales force for customer quotations based on standards set by manufacturing. May offer discounts based on volume or terms.
  • Analyze and control expenditures of division to conform to budgetary requirements.
  • Represent company at customer sites and trade shows.
  • Responsible to manage NCR's (non conformance report) and RMA's (return materials authorization).

Production

  • Coordinate technical liaison services between management, production department, sales department, and customers regarding techniques or practices in processing company products.
  • Coordinate technical liaison services to inform production and sales departments of types, specifications, and end uses of products.
  • Confer with production department and customer engineers regarding specifications required by customers to simplify product or reduce costs.
  • Recommend and negotiate types of finish on product, e.g. anodized, milled, painted, coated or mill finish.
  • Monitor and plan levels of inventory according to product development and distribution schedules.

Customer Service

  • Direct investigation of customer complaints regarding quality, tolerances, specifications, and delivered condition of products. Reconcile complaints with customers.
  • Record, analyze, and inform concerned personnel of production quality assurance, and sales departments of status and disposition of customer complaints and claims.
  • Administer systems for responding to customer inquiries.
  • Negotiate settlement of claims, for which company is responsible, within limits prescribed by management.

Supervisory

  • Overall responsibility for the direction, coordination, and evaluation of his/her unit.
  • Directly supervise Jr. Program Managers and Customer Support Representatives in the Sales Department.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing employee complaints and resolving problems.
  • Monitor subordinates calls to observe employees demeanor, technical accuracy and conformity to company policies and procedures.

Procurement

  • Confer with vendors to obtain product or service information such as price, credit terms, availability, and delivery schedule.
  • Determine method of procurement such as direct purchase or bid.
  • Prepare purchase orders or bid requests.
  • Review bid proposals and negotiate contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.
  • Maintain procurement records such as items or services purchased, costs, delivery, product quality or performance, and inventories.
  • Approve invoices for payment.

Education and/or Experience
High School or Trade School graduate; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Mechanical abilities a must. Must have minimum 2 years CAD experience, and 3 years project management experience. Production manufacturing experience required.

Language Skills
English language ability preferred. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
